Nothing Better.

July 30th, 2013

So last night was a rough night, Amber had done her two workout classes, and I ran my 2 miles for the day(more on this later) and then joined her for Pound class before doing the whole nightly bath/bedtime routines.  The night started awesome as Mattox requested that Lincoln read to him before bed and started off down the hallway with a couple of goodnights to mom and dad.  That went well and then Mattox had a bout of gas issues and was pretty inconsolable for an hour or two before finally falling out at 12:30 or so.

Fast forward to 7:30 this morning and I’m brushing my teeth and i see Mattox walk past the bathroom door carrying his blanket and he looked up at me and simply smiled.  Can’t think of a better way to start the day.

So the running, friday night I made a pact (with myself) to run 2 miles a day for 30 days and if I completed the goal I’d buy myself some new golf wedges (still have a major golf addiction this summer) so far I’m 4 days in and it’s gotten easier every day and was down to less than 10 minute miles last night.

Bloggity Blog blog blog

July 12th, 2013

Been a busy time since my last blog post, including an ENTIRE WINTER! (and Spring) and we’re full bore into summer now.  Finished up Lincoln’s new loft bed this last weekend and we spent a few days in Niagara Falls for our 10th wedding anniversary the last week in June.  It’s almost too much to write about, so I’ll just say things are great with the Keathleys and everyday is a new adventure with Mattox and Lincoln.

2 months….really?

September 24th, 2012

So it’s been forever since I’ve blogged, I’ve determined by numerous ideas of my own that I’ve tried to launch and been unsuccessful that I think I have a lot to say but in the end I just don’t have the discipline to keep blogging on a regular basis.  A  lot has happened since I blogged last, Lincoln has started Flag Football, earned a yellow belt in hap ki jitsu, grown what seems like 3 feet and gotten a little mouthy (mostly with mom).  Mattox is walking pretty good, repeating A LOT of words and loves watching dada play “goff” on the ps3.  We had an interesting weekend this past weekend as Lincoln had a head on collision with another kid at the Bounce Castle and took a pretty nasty cut on his upper lip.

As you can see he looks like he tried to box out Ron Artest, despite the pain of stitches (Amber said herself and 2 nurses had to hold him down) he’s been a pretty tough dude about, with no complaining at all the last day and a half since it happened.  He had to get 2 stitches on the outside and 3 on the inside, not sure if he’ll get a scar from it, but he’ll for sure have photographic evidence to look at when he’s older.

Hey look at me I’m blogging!

July 19th, 2012

So it’s been forever since I’ve checked in, been pretty busy working during the daytime for the summer and still trying to get the workouts and side business in (still down 38 pounds or so), so blogging has been put on the back burner.  I love to just watch how my kids brains work, it’s great how you can almost see the wheels turning as their eyes dart around as they’re thinking of ways to do things they are trying to figure out.  The other day we’re sitting at dinner, eating spaghetti and Lincoln says “I hate muck” to which Amber and I say “What?” and we try to figure out what food he’s calling “muck” turns out he’s referring to the bottom of the lake when he’s swimming in a lake (which he’s done maybe 5 times) and commenting randomly about how he hates muck a week after they spent a day at the lake.

So we’re gearing up for our week without Mommy as she heads to Costa Rica for her mission trip and it should be a lot of fun, I’ve taken the week off of work, so we’ll have a lot of daddy and the boys time.  Probably going to take in a baseball game with Lincoln if I can score some Yankees tickets, and still not sure what to do with Mattox for some personal time.  Might have to look for a good toddler play place.

My boy is wicked smaaaart

April 13th, 2012

So maybe he’s not THAT smart yet(sorry for Will Hunting’s F-Bomb), but I as proud as I can be with Lincoln’s progress at school.  It’s weird and awesome at the same time how quickly kids learn different skills.  One day you’re driving and he’s asking questions about every sign and building, then almost overnight it seems like he’s reading everything he sees as we drive around.  Lincoln went from a 6 to a 16 on the reading scale they use in a matter of a month, coupled with already taking 1st grade math class and yes as Casey Affleck puts it, My boy is wicked smaaaart.

Dad update:  I’m now down 33 pounds and feeling better every day, carried a 33 pound box for someone at work the other day and couldn’t believe I used to carry that around all day long.

What’s New?

March 26th, 2012

Well first off, Lincoln is a basketball junkie, he wants to play/watch/play video games of basketball pretty much 24/7 these days.  We took a trip to the Chelsea Treehouse on Saturday and normally he loves to run around, play on the slides, swing from stuff etc…well not this time.  The new location for the CTH has some more room than the old one (200% improvement IMO) and they put in a small “basketball room” which is essential 2 8 foot hoops, 20-25 feet of screened in area and a dozen balls on the floor.   Well Lincoln “met” a new friend and play one-on-one (he won “80-78″ according to him) for 2 HOURS, both boys were dripping with sweat and I think they spent less than 5 minutes within the actual treehouse structure.  Gotta get this dude on a team soon, he’s doing everything on the court, calling for passes, boxing out, passing, playing defense, it’s really fun to watch.

Meanwhile Mr. Mattox was a little daredevil on the small slides, and even on the full size he started to take off before good ol’ dad was ready (that could have been scary) but he was a champ at the small slides, going down a dozen times or more without any help from us at all.  It was a really fun unplanned family night out, even if the Bob Evans hamburger was one of the worst I’ve ever been served.

Now notice I didn’t say “worst I’ve ever eaten” and that’s because when you join the calorie counting  brigade, you have to make a decision on whether something is worth the calories or not, and this burger was terrible and I finish about half before giving up.  As for the calorie counting, I’m happy to say I’m now down 24.5 pounds as of this morning since starting on January 16th.  So almost 25 pounds down in 10 weeks and hope to lose another 18 in the next 5 weeks before my birthday.  Which will land me at 232 pounds on May 3rd and I’ll be 70% of the way to my goal (60 pounds) for the year.

I love my job!

February 3rd, 2012

So i’ve never wanted to be one of those people that constantly complains about their job or their boss, but it seems I fell into that mode for awhile.  The low pay, inept decisions from above led to me being a bit bored with my job and not usually looking forward to going in or sitting in another meeting that never seemed to lead to anything actually happening.  I’ve come to the realization that I love my job, and not for the pay, the work, the co-workers, non of that stuff, I love my job because it’s allowed me to spend so much time with my boys, being able to make my own schedule has allowed me to be the daycare for Lincoln until he hit school and now for Mattox.  It’s made things harder on the husband/wife front when we’re around each other less and less and tired when we do see each other, but I think the time we’ve spent with our boys during their first 5 years is something we’ll always look back on and smile.  I could have the job of my dreams(who knows what that actually is) and spend 12 hours  a day working, come home in time to eat and put the kids to sleep and make twice as much money, but would I be a happier person? husband? dad? I highly doubt it, so for that I love my job!

Life = In Order

January 23rd, 2012

I can’t help but feel happy these days, while my job still sucks pay wise, it does allow me to stay at home with Mattox (and allowed me to stay home with Lincoln) so neither of them have to be trucked to daycare everyday, but every other facet of life seems on point.  Whenever someone asks me how I’m doing, I always answer “Excellent” on the grounds that things cor other people are a whole lot worse and what do I have to complain about.  I have a great wife, 2 great boys, a house, car to drive…..etc..  But doing Dave Ramsey’s plan the last 16 months, paying off a ton of debt and having a plan for when the rest is gone (Hello 2014!) has given me great relief when it comes  to money issues, I can tell you there hasn’t been an issue in the last 16 months because we know where our money is going and are both on board 100%.  I’ve recently (along with my wife) started back up using the loseit.com app for tracking calories and helping with weight loss, 8 days into using the program again (I had lose 20 pounds in 2 months with it in 2010) and I’m down 6 pounds and my wife is down 3.5 after just a week of tracking.  It’s amazing the difference you can make in these areas just by paying attention to every dollar and every calorie.  I now look at the future and see better health, physical and financial for my family, and in a time where there’s too much unemployment and gas prices continue to rise, it’s nice to feel secure and know I’m taking care of the things I need to take care of.

Christmas Time

December 28th, 2011

Well Christmas time has come and gone, things were pretty busy for us, having both sets of parents live nearby led to a Christmas Eve that required 4 stops including church at the ‘tree.  Our boys were really good and seem really happy with their Christmas haul.  It’s sometimes hard at Lincoln’s age to understand how to get so much stuff and be thankful for it, rather than dwelling on that one thing you wanted that you didn’t get.  At every “party” he was more excited to give the gifts he picked up at the Secret Santa shop than he was to open the stuff bought for him.

We’ve been having a lot of fun with Amber and Lincoln’s 2 week break, Lincoln checked out Junior Jiujitsu last night and is going to try his first class this Saturday.  We have a project together with the slot car track we got him for Christmas which should be a lot of fun to finish putting together and accessorizing the layout together. (More work for Dad than Lincoln)  A slot car track/layout is something I always wanted as a kid and seeing Lincoln get excited over it was really cool Christmas morning, even if is just as much a gift for me as it is him :)

For the record, I don’t think I’ll even beat my wife at Just Dance 3 (Unless they put in Bawitaba and it’s a mosh pit), but I WILL score higher than 2 stars very soon.
